Federal Taxes and the Internal Revenue Service

 
  The Internal Revenue Service, a bureau of the United States Department of the Treasury, collects Federal taxes which are used to pay for Federal programs. About three-fifths of federal expenditures go to defense, security, social security, medicare, medicaid, and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).
